We’ll Use Recovered Money To Create Jobs For Youths-BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said his administration was determined to recover money stolen by former public officers to create jobs for the nation’s teeming unemployed youths. The President said this at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Gbakuta, Iseyin, Oyo State, during the swearing-in of Batch `A’ corps members posted to the state. Buhari, whose speech was read by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sport, Mrs Ololade Agboola, said recovered funds would be used to create jobs. “One of the disturbing problems inherited by this administration is increasing unemployment amongst young people. “In fact, the unemployment situation has taken a great toll on the Nigeria youths at their prime productive ages. “That is why this administration is anxious to recover illicit wealth to channel them into productive economic ventures to absorb thousands into employment’’, he said. He said government was aware of rejection of corps members, infrastructure deficit at the orientation camps, and dwindling resources as some challenges facing the NYSC. “I have been informed that these problems have persisted due to monumental growth in graduate population and inadequate corresponding resource provisions. “These seemingly intimidating obstacles should not dampen your zeal to make the desired sacrifice to serve your fatherland as government is prepared to address these problems’’, he said. The President implored corps members to settle down quickly and learn about ideals of life while contributing their quota to national unity.

Barcelona's Brazil international purchased a new aircraft - which can transport 12 people and has a maximum range of 3,190 miles - for a hefty sum in August 2015. Barcelona forward Neymar spent$9.1 million (£6.2 million) on a new jet last year, according to Brazilian newspaper O Globo, meaning that his goalscoring statistics are not the only thing taking off! A document shows that the Brazil international purchased the Cessna 680 aircraft in August 2015 through his company Neymar Sport and Marketing. The business jet can carry up to 12 passengers, has a maximum range of 3,190 miles and can cruise at a speed of 890 kilometres per hour. As part of an investigation into Neymar's tax affairs, the former Santos man had £32 million worth of assets frozen in February, including a yacht and another jet owned by the 24-year-old. That won't stop Neymar getting around, though, with his shiny new plane still available to use and even having space for Luis Enrique and the Barcelona starting line-up. http://static.goal.com/2954300/2954362_heroa.jpg

Policeman’s Wife Stabs Female Neighbour For "Laughing"

There was a breach of the peace on Etunrere Street in the Ikorodu area of Lagos on Monday after the wife of a policeman attached to the state command allegedly stabbed her neighbour, Mrs. Olaitan Ayobami. The cop’s wife, Mrs. Desola Ochoche, fled the residence afterwards, leaving Ayobami for dead. But the lady got lucky as she was rushed to a private hospital in the area. According to Punch, the attack was caused by a scuffle between the duo on Sunday when Ochoche reportedly challenged Ayobami to a duel for laughing at her. It was gathered that they were separated only for the fight to resume around 6am on Monday when Ayobami, a teacher, wanted to bathe. After the face-off, the teacher with her children were heading for school when the policeman's wife, Mrs. Ochoche, ambushed her at the entrance of their rented building with a shard of bottle. She was said to have chased her to the garage on the premises and stabbed her in the head and hand. She was eventually arrested by policemen from Igbogbo Police Division, but released a few hours later. Ayobami said she wanted Mrs. Ochoche to be brought to book, adding that she was still in pains. She said, “On Saturday, I left my phone in my kitchen and when I went back to pick it, I found it inside water. I wanted to challenge Iya Oby (Ochoche), but my husband warned me not to do so because I didn’t have evidence. On Sunday, she started singing abusive songs against me, but I did not reply. “At a point, I laughed and she became angry. She poured water on me and we fought. While I was going to the bathroom on Monday morning, she attacked me and we fought again. Her husband separated us and warned her to let peace reign. “I was going to school when she attacked me in the corridor and stabbed me with a shard of bottle. Her husband, who is a policeman, took her to the Igbogbo division, but she has been released. I want her to be charged to court.” Mrs. Ochoche, who spoke with Punch on the telephone, admitted stabbing Ayobami. She, however, claimed that she acted to revenge an injury earlier inflicted on her by the teacher. She said, “I have been warning her to stop insulting me with songs. She would accuse me of flirting around just because I am not employed. It is true I stabbed her but she had used something to injure me in the face while we were fighting around 6am on Monday. I revenged so that she would know she cannot intimidate me.” Asked if it's laughter that caused the fight, she replied, "I don’t know. I'm on medication, want to sleep." The police spokesperson in the state, SP Dolapo Badmos, said it was a case of affray and the two women would be charged to court. She said, “The two women injured each other and they have been released to go and take care of themselves after which they will be charged to court for affray.”

Bola Ige’s Family Scholarship For Indigent Students In Osun, Oyo

The family of the late Chief Bola Ige, former Attorney General of the Federation, has announced a N29 million scholarship for indigent students of Osun and Oyo states. According to the son of the late former attorney general, Mr Olumuyiwa Ige, 66 students have been selected from public schools across the states. Ige, a former Commissioner in the state, said the students would go through a competitive selection process to choose the best of them. He stated that the scholarship is intended for students in the senior and junior secondary school categories. He explained that two students would be picked from each category. “The rationale behind this scheme is to keep the legacy of my late father alive in the area of prioritising qualitative education for children irrespective of their backgrounds and colours. “The modality of the scholarships is through giving free education worth N12 million to pupils in the junior category, which will cover their education, feeding, and accommodation from JSS 1 to SS3. “Also, in the senior category, N2.5 million worth of scholarship will be given to the two winners in the `A’ Level programme, for the duration of one year. “This will qualify them to get admission in any university around the world. “The totality of the scholarship scheme is N29 million in all – that is, N24 million for the junior category, and N5 million for the senior category. “What makes the scheme easier and effective is that our family school, the Vale College, Ibadan is where the students will enjoy the scholarships, which will make mentoring and monitoring more effective,” Ige said. The Vice-Principal of the school, Mr Billy Oladimeji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the selection process was on merit. He said the second stage of the scheme, was an oral test, with a view to discovering the oratory prowess of the students, the virtue in which late Bola Ige was known for in his life time. Oladimeji stated that the winners in the two categories will emerge eventually after the completion of the second stage at Ibadan.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF ABUJA

The indigenous inhabitants of Abuja are the Gbagyi(Gwari) as the major language, Bassa, Gwandara, Gade, Ganagana, Koro etc. In light of the ethnic and religious divisions of Nigeria, plans had been devised since Nigeria's independence to have its capital in a place deemed neutral to all major ethnic parties, and also in close proximity to all the regions of Nigeria. The location was eventually designated in the centre of the country in the early 1970s as it signified neutrality and national unity. Another impetus for Abuja came because of Lagos' population boom that made that city overcrowded and conditions squalid. The logic used was similar to the way Brazilplanned its capital, Brasília. Construction broke ground and was dedicated in the late 1970s but, due to economic and political instability, the initial stages of the city were not complete until the late 1980s. The master plan for Abuja and the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) was developed by International Planning Associates (IPA), a consortium of three American firms: Planning Research Corporation; Wallace, McHarg, Roberts and Todd;and Archisystems, a division of the Hughes Organization. The master plan for Abuja defined the general structure and major design elements of the city that are visible in its current form. More detailed design of the central areas of the capital, particularly its monumental core, was accomplished by Kenzo Tange, a renowned Japanese architect, with his team of city planners at Kenzo Tange and Urtec company. Most countries relocated their embassiesto Abuja, and many maintain their former embassies as consulatesin Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria. Abuja is the headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) and the regional headquarters of OPEC. Abuja and the FCT have experienced huge population growth; it has been reported that some areas around Abuja have been growing at 20% to 30% per year. Squatter settlements and towns have spread rapidly in and outside the city limits. Tens of thousands of people have been evicted since former FCT minister Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai started a demolition campaign in 2003.

Release Nnamdi Kanu And Tender An Unreserved Apology To Him- onaiyekan to Buhari

Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari over disregarding court orders, demanding the release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu. He said: “There is no sign that Nigeria has the president. The problem President Buhari has is that many Nigerians want to continue as they were doing before and they want everybody else to change, but not themselves.” “Democracy is all about the rule of law. Three times he has disobeyed court orders in less than a year in office. “Disobedience to court orders by those who should protect and ensure its compliance slides the Nation to anarchy. “It is wrong to undermine the Constitution of Nigeria which is the bases of the Nigerian nation and expects people not to resist such via protesting. For those supporting president can you please justify why he has refused to obey court orders? The prominent cleric added: “My dear President Buhari, it will be in the best interest of the nation that you obey court orders and apologize to the nation for the embarrassments you have caused us which have led to peaceful demonstrations in virtually major parts of Southern Nigeria. “You should in the best interest of the nation set up a truth and reconciliation committee and compensate families of those killed. You should have obeyed as ordered by the court; ask your DSS to obey court orders, release Nnamdi Kanu and tender an unreserved apology to him for the embarrassments you have caused him, his wife, family, and millions of his followers by detaining him and infringing on his rights without good reason.” Kanu was arrested in Lagos in October on conspiracy and terrorism charges, which were later dropped. A day after the Abuja High Court ordered his release, officials pressed new treasonable felony charges against him, while President Buhari said Kanu would not be granted bail due to the “atrocities” allegedly committed.

We understand what Nigerians are passing through, and we won’t make it harder on them till we solve the problems, what we promised Nigerians is safe landing and we shall surely deliver on our promises.” Senator Abdul Fatai Buhari of Oyo state Senator Buhari also spoke on the lingering fuel crisis. He said the solution to fuel shortage is an urgent deregulation of the downstream sector. He stated:“We are in this mess because of our poor maintenance culture, if we had maintained the existing refineries in the country, we would not have relied on imported refined products for sustenance.” He did not talk on the state of nation alone, without urging Senator Saraki to resign. This is in tandem to the present travails of the Senate president as one witness named Michael Wetkast on Wednesday, April 6, told the court that the Senate president, Bukola Saraki continued to receive salary four years after leaving office, as the governor of Kwara state.

Stop Blaming Us For Your Failures- PDP Tells APC

Following the repeated action by the APC to blame the immediate past government and party for all the hardship presently being faced in the country, the PDP has asked the ruling party APC to stop the blame game and come up with solutions to address the issues bothering Nigerians. PDP Chairman, Alimodu Sheriff said this while inaugurating four committees in the PDP in Abuja today April 5th “The leadership of the party share the pains of Nigerians after one year in office of the All Progressives Congress-led government. Nigerians now have the opportunity of comparing the PDP and also the APC. The ultimate judge of this exercise are Nigerians. ‎Instead of the APC addressing the problems of the country, the ruling party has kept blaming the PDP for lack of petrol in the country. I saw the other day a publication by one of the leaders of the APC that we are responsible for lack of petrol after their one year in office. I would like to advise the leaders of the APC to stop blaming us in the PDP, we are now in the opposition party, repositioning our party to show Nigerians that we could do better.”

US trip is “joke of the year”, Fayose tells Buhari

Outspoken Ekiti state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on President Mohammadu Buhari to stop his needless foreign trips, describing the president’s trip to the United States of America on Wednesday for the 4th Nuclear Security Summit while Nigerians are suffering at home as “joke of the year.” The governor said: “it remains a mystery what President Buhari that met power generation at 6,000MW and could not manage it such that power generation crumbled to Zero Megawatt yesterday, will contribute to the Nuclear Energy Summit in America.” Speaking through his special assistant on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said“it is shameful that while President Buhari was far away in the United States of America, attending a summit that does not have any bearing on Nigeria and its people, an unprecedented happened – power generation stopped completely for over three hours!” He said the sufferings of Nigerians deserved the attention of the president instead of junketing around the world, wasting the country’s scarce foreign exchange. The governor alleged that over $50 million must have been spent on the president’s frequent foreign trips, adding that Nigerians should ask President Buhari whether his trip to the United States of America to attend Nuclear Energy Summit will bring the lingering fuel scarcity being experienced in the country to an end. “Nigerians are suffering. Petrol has become so scarce that our people now sleep in petrol stations to buy fuel at N200 per litre while the president who should alleviate their sufferings is in the USA, attending a summit that he won’t even understand whatever that is discussed there. “This is not acceptable. Mr President should stay at home and see to it that at least, power generation returns to 6,000MW that he met it if he cannot add to it. “Mr President should stay at home and bring this fuel scarcity that has paralysed almost all activities in the country to an end. “Nigerians are saying their president should stay at home and bring to an end the killings, raping of women and destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen. “Most importantly, the President should listen more to those of us who criticise him instead of those hailing every of his wrong steps either because of what they intend to gain or for fear of persecution,” the governor said. Despite repeated claims that it is committed to fighting corruption, the Nigerian government has refused to commit to two US anti-corruption initiatives. Government officials led by Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs rose from the U.S.-Nigeria Bi-National Commission(BNC) meeting on Wednesday, March 30 refusing to be members of Open Government Partnership (OGP) and the Partnership on Illicit Finance (PIF).
