Buhari: My Presidency Is For Prosperity, Not Adversity

APC Presidential Candidate, Gen. Buhari said that his presidency will eradicate corruption, and that his government, if elected, will promote prosperity and not adversity. “Corruption will have no place and the corrupt will not be appointed into my administration. First and foremost, we will plug the holes in the budgetary process.” He pledged to strengthen anti-graft agencies, and imbue them with independence and prosecutorial authority without political interference. “But I must emphasise that any war waged on corruption should not be misconstrued as settling old scores or a witch-hunt. I’m running for President to lead Nigeria to prosperity and not adversity.” He also noted that the security situation in the country is worrisome and alarming, stating that “there is a genuine cause for worry, both within and outside Nigeria. Apart from the civil war era, at no other time in our history has Nigeria been this insecure”. “Boko Haram has sadly put Nigeria on the terrorism map, killing more than 13,000 of our nationals, displacing millions internally and externally, and at a time holding on to portions of our territory the size of Belgium. What has been consistently lacking is the required leadership in our battle against insurgency. I, as a retired general and a former head of state, have always known about our soldiers: they are capable, well trained, patriotic, brave and always ready to do their duty in the service of our country.” He expresses regret that the government had so dragged its feet in the anti-terror war that it was now dependent on neighbours to bail it out. “We will always act on time and not allow problems to irresponsibly fester, and I, Muhammadu Buhari, will always lead from the front and return Nigeria to its leadership role in regional and international efforts to combat terrorism,” he said.

Mobile policeman shoots police boss to death in Bauchi

A mobile policeman in Bauchi state shot dead his superior and former ADC to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Superintendent of Police, Chris Eza (pictured above), yesterday February 26th in Bauchi. According to family sources, Chris Eza had gone out to get food at an eatery along Ahmadu Bello way around 9pm when he saw some police officers on patrol. On observation, he found out that one of them, the suspect, was not properly dressed and immediately cautioned him. The junior officer, a Corporal, got angry and began to grumble for being told to dress properly. An angry Chris felt his action was unacceptable and warned the officer that he was going to disarm him if he didn't take care. Instead of apologizing, the junior officer cocked his gun and threatened to shoot his boss. He told Eza that if he came close to him, he would shoot. Calling his bluff, Eza moved towards the officer, who immediately opened fire. Other officers around rushed Chris to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi where he was declared dead on arrival. Until his death, he was the MOPOL 11 Commander. The officer has since been arrested and investigations into the motive for the killing is ongoing.

DISGRACE: Obasanjo tears PDP membership card in public

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday left his guests at his Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta with bated breath when he tore his Peoples Democratic Party membership card in their presence.
The guests, who are leaders of the PDP from Obasanjo’s ward around his former residence in Ita Eko, where he registered, visited the ex-president to express their concern with his recent utterances against the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and what he considered as the President’s role in the postponement of the general elections from February to March.
Obasanjo had alleged on Saturday that Jonathan had a “grand plan” to scuttle democracy in the country through the poll shift, accusing the President of trying to win the presidential poll “through hook or crook.”
The guests in Abeokuta had told the former Head of State that they had come to plead with him to stop his criticisms of the incumbent president.
They also informed him of the feelers that they were getting that the leaders of the party were planning to expel him from the party.
Obasanjo asked his guests if they were with their PDP membership card, which some of them produced.
He subsequently asked for his own, which someone brought to him.
He then directed the leader of the team to tear the card in shreds, telling the visitors that he was no longer a member of the ruling party.
The former president had last year resigned his membership of the party, when he was the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, arguing that he could no longer be in the same party and be led in the South-West by someone he referred to as a confirmed drug baron.
